Hi! I'm new to this site, and Doberman owning. (My chihuahua died this spring he was 15.) Everything is going great so far, Ripley is 6 months. However I switched her food from what she was eating when I got her, Purina One Lrg breed to Eagle Pack Lrg breed, yes gradually. And loose stool, gas, and farting. So we went to Taste of the Wild. She is not any different. I gave both foods a two bag time trial. The lower quality food is so unnerving to me. Am I just over thinking it to much? Should I just give the Purina again? Any vitamins? Plus I know raised feeders are great, (even my Cosmo had one) but what size should I get for a female that is still growing? I find the wrought iron ones the most appealing. The styles and heights aren't very consistant thought. Thank you! This forum is great!
Years ago, before I was educated on dog food, all my dogs ate Purina One and Iams. I have never had any problems with either food and all my animals have lived well past their life expectancy. Years ago I believe the quality of both those foods was much better than it is today. I would say, if it doesn't stress you out to keep playing the food change game until you hit upon one that doesn't give her the gas issues then keep at it. If it is a pia, then go back to what she was on if she was doing well on it. Some of the foods you tried, like Taste of the Wild, may have been too rich for her young digestive system.
There are the raised diners that grow with your dog. I don't know of any specific brand names to give you but I have seen them for sale in the pet stores.
I have tried taste of the wild, mixing with my dogs regular food. I have never used it alone. I prefer Innova, or Chicken soup for the dog lovers soul. I had them on merrick, but I had loose stools on that one. Try the chicken soup if you wish, it is very nice.
A breeder friend of mine uses purina one on all her dogs, and they have nice coats, and healthy. If it works use it.
