I recently aquired a female great dane and asked the previous owner when her next heat was...she told me Sept.(She did sound unsure)Well, I have blood drops on my floor and she is cleaning herself. She tried to mount my 7 month old Great Dane male. Not sure if she is in heat...reason...? My 7 month old isn't going crazy and seems uninterested ...I thought when a female was in heat the males are right on that? I want to keep them seperated but unsure of her heat...and like I said my 7month old pup could care less. Can anyone give advice?
Your male is not mature enough yet to want to breed. Females throw scents during certain times in their heat cycles. Usually around day 9, the males become interested. You say you want to keep them apart, but at the same time you want your male to want her? You have yet to disclose how old your female is. However, I can tell you right now that your male has yet to undergo the first of a series of proper health testing.
Have her spayed, enjoy her as a pet and love her. Not only does it prevent unwanted puppies from coming into the world and over-running shelters, it protects her from potential health problems in the future.
If you need help, ask God; if you don't, thank God.
