I took my dog to the vet to have her shots and found out that my regular doctor was no longer there. The new vet noticed that there was some staining around where my dog pees(she can't reach to wash herself) so she said she'd trim it.
She ended up shaving the whole area and now 3 days later my dog is still really irritated and can't even stand for a few seconds without rubbing or sitting down. The next day I contacted them and they gave me some cream but its really hard to keep it on her and doesn't seem to be working. I'm really mad at the vet for being so careless and causing all of this stress when I didn't even ask for it to be shaved.
Is there anything else I can apply or give her (baby asprin) to help her until the hair starts growing back. The area is not really red or infected so Im not sure why she is having so much discomfort.
simple desitin(baby rash cream), should take care of the problem. Vets usually only have an extremely short blade, shorter then what a groomer would use for that area. It probably cause minor irritation, and she has made it worse by licking and scooting. We groomers see it all the time, esp. when I dog is not used to having its privates shaved. Try the cream and either get an e-collar so she can not lick it off, or watch her and do something to occupy her so it has a chance to really work.
