It's been one day since my pomeranian had his luxating patella surgery. He also got his crucating ligament done as well since it completely tore.
On his physical therapy paper, it started that he would need to take short walks. So far the only walks I'm letting he take are the ones for potty breaks. I usually just take him outside and let him down when he gets to the grass. He doesn't seem to want to walk. He just stands there and doesn't seem to even want to go. Anyone have this experience? I'm getting worried and its nerve wrecking. Any tips or advice on your dog after a luxating patella surgery. I would really appreciate it.
Short walks to go potty are all he should be doing right now. His not wanting to walk is probably due to some discomfort he is feeling in his leg. Some dogs also, who are used to lifting their legs to pee, won't after the surgery either A. because thats the leg they are used to lifting, or B. it will hurt to put too much pressure on the hurt leg to do it. Surprisingly, dogs can hold themselves an amazingly long time before they will go. At some point he will go. Just give him some time to adjust and figure out what works best for him.
