Hey - about a month ago I got a lab pup. To be honest, I've never had a puppy before. Although I was really unsure as to where to start and the fact that she is very high spirited and can be stubborn - training has been very very excellent. She is fully potty trained (Has accidents when some people don't pay attention though o.O) I first taught her sit, then that went to lay down, come, stay, heel. She picked up on all of those commands within half an hour, I swear it took her 10 minutes to figure out what sit meant. Other than that - I don't know where to move on to. My friend wanted to train her for bird hunting but really hasn't spent a lot of time with her - I would like to do some special things, I believe she is a very very smart dog and is craving direction. I am thinking about taking some obedient classes - just to up my experience a little. Any thoughts as to where I should head from here?
Look for puppy kindergarden first, then into obedience, and from there you can do agility, flyball, dock diving, there are so many activities it will also depend on where you live. Once you find an instructor they will probably have a line on what activities are available in your area.
In addition to what Ruffian stated, I would look for basic obedience, possibly the STAR program through AKC. Many pet training facilities offer this. There are so many types of training you can do with her and she could eventually be a therapy dog also.
It sounds like you enjoy working with her and she will enjoy learning and pleasing you. I wish you two the best. Sounds like you are both meant for each other.
