Received a call today from an owner of one of our pups. She lives in Lubbock Texas and her pup has had skin allergies. His symptoms are: red, swollen skin around his nails, bumps on his skin and secondary staph infection. The vet has recommended further allergy testing, but she has to go to the other side of Texas for it.
We discussed grass allergies, and she has changed his food numerous times, with plenty of time in between to determine if it was a food allergy. She washes his feet when he comes in from outside, and there isn't any respiratory issues, it is all skin related.
His parents do not have any allergies and I have not heard this from other puppy owners, so I am led to believe that it is either a recessive gene or environmental.
Besides switching foods, putting booties on him to keep him off the grass or dirt, do you have other suggestions?
