What does anyone know about Cerenia? My grand doggie got a hold of my triametene (water pill) The vet has him on Cerenia and he is so lethargic and not eating, shakes all the time. I read somewhere where it is not tested on dogs and someones dog died of grand mal seizueres.
Cerenia is an anti-emetic. It is commonly used for car sickness and dogs that are sick and have been vomiting excessively. One of the side effects of it is lethargy so that is normal. I don't understand where you read that it is not for dogs because the drug was made specifically for motion sickness in dogs.
Not all you read on the net is right. They went to another vet today for a second opinion. This one acutally did bloodwork. His kidneys are shot from all the medicine the other vet had him on like prednisone and lasix, the water pull just pushed it over the edge. He goes back saturday for more testing. Does anyone know the prognosis of this? How long until the kidneys give out for good?
Your dog had much bigger problems then the question asked. It doesn't mean what was read was wrong. You can not blame someone for not knowing all the info if you don't give it. you asked a question about a drug, and the correct anwser was given.
I did not have to read on the "net" in order to give you that information. I am pretty familiar with the drug Cerenia as we use and dispense it a lot at work.
Kidney failure can occur due to several reasons. Longterm drug therapy of certain drugs, such as prednisone, can be 1 cause. If the dogs kidneys are that bad, why is he not hospitalized on I.V. fluids right now? That is about the closest thing we have to dialysis for animals with kidney problems. Depednding on cause and severity, some animals can be managed at home on a Sub-Q fluid regimen. Did the vet send home fluids for the dog to be given at home?
