hey all, we have a lab/pit mix puppy adorable 5 months black and white. Our first puppy, how often should she be bathed, how important is insurance, potty training is going ok, but she does make errors on my carpet, she nips, etc. We have her now 1 month and need some guidance. Can you help?
I wouldn't bathe her more than every couple of months. Excessive bathing can lead to drying out their skin. I don't have insurance on my dogs so I don't have first hand experience with it. However it seems to me that even with the insurance you have to have the money upfront when paying the vet and the insurance reimburses you. There are different packages which cover different things so I would check them out and see which one suits your needs the best. As far as potty training goes, she really should be trained by now. If she is still having accidents in your house then I would limit the places she has access too until she is 100% reliable and you don't have to keep a close eye on her.
Have you attempted to crate train your puppy? If not, I would definitely give it a try. Not only will you be able to house train her, but she can be in the crate whilst you are out of the house for a couple of hours, and you don't have to worry about what she may be chewing. As far as the nipping goes, make sure you don't play hands with her, but re-direct her to a toy. She is still teething, but she should not be nipping all the time. Give her lots of tough toys to play with and good large raw bones.I also suggest socializing her as much as possible with other dogs and humans. At this point, I would suggest enrolling her in obedience classes. I think you would both benefit tremendously from it. Good luck with her.
