Hi, new here. I just adopted a dog today from a rescue league. He was advertised as labrador/doberman mix, but is obviously a pit bull or pit bull/lab mix. The rescue league didn't have a whole lot of info on him and they also misrepresented his age (post said 1-1/2 years old - 2 vets estimated he's 5). I have him at home and he's a really sweet dog and is already quite attached to me. But I'm now having buyer's remorse. I have 2 small kids (3 & 6) and a cat. So far, so good, but I can't stop worrying. I'll try to post a pic to see if anyone here can identify. I could also use some words of encouragement/advice :)
Why are you having buyers remorse? You said he is a really sweet dog. What are you afraid will happen?
If it's a Pit Bull concern, perhaps it would reassure you to know that Pit Bulls are known as the Nanny Dog for a reason. They are very tolerant of children and rough play. You did a great thing by opening your home to a dog in need. Watch him and how he interacts with your children. Never leave any dog alone with young children.
Give it time. Based on what you have shared, there is no reason to think this dog will be anything but a model member of your family.
