My cat just had her 2nd litter. We kept a male from her first litter and now he seems to be taking over. He lets them try to nurse on him and he is cleaning their feces. The mom seems to be ignoring them. They are only 3 weeks and 4 days old. Could this be normal or should I intervene??...Also haven't noticed if mom has completely rejected them or if she is simply trying to wean them.
I would get the male away from the litter, the mother cat may think he's going to try and kill them. Keep him seperated somehow, and find a nice cozy place for the mother and kittens. You can also try to start feeding them mushed up kitten food, and see how they take it. Put a cat box right near by, because you will have a lot of poop to clean up otherwise. Kittens generally do well with a cat box anyway. Don't forget to worm them. Good luck!
