Hi Everyone, I am new here and have never posted on a fourm before so please excuse any blunders I may make. Here is my situation. I now have a 3 or 4 yr old Miniature Pincher that was rescued from a puppy mill. I had her checked out when I first got her Aug 12, 2010. Doc said she looked quite good to have come from "such an evil place" and at the time Doc didn't think she was prego or it was too early to tell. Now 23 days later I am starting to see a significant weight gain that seems to be a little more than just having food available all the time now. I have never had a pregnant female nor had pups and if she is pregnant I want to make this last go as easy as possible on her. What I am looking for is the little things that I can do for her during this time to comfort her. She was quite timid when we got her but now she is about normal if not spoiled a bit. Happy, playfull, smart, demanding, loving and extreemly loved by the whole house. Gotta be..to be sleeping between hubby and I. I often wake up to him stealing her from me so he can have snuggle time too.. What little extras have y'all found to help get a girl ready for the big day? I have herd to put them on puppy food to help.. but what else can I do? I have read all about whelping so I think we can handle that. Got a vet that will stand by for us. I am just trying to be prepared if this little bump turns into a couple of bumps. Thank you, Sandra
first id like to say that you did a great deed by taking in a dog thats had a horrible life up til this point...good for you! since you said shes come from a puppy mill im sure shes been bred mulitple times before and since they never give their "pets" (and i say that so discusted loosely)any vet care at all then shes probably did fine with her other litters but keeping a vet on stand by is a great idea! dogs handle pregnancy pretty well and dont seem to become as miserable as we do but watch her diet, its important not to underfeed or overfeed her. yes shell need more food now but not overfeeding. theres a great website ***** that will help you get to know the little stuff but the vet is always your best bet to go to. there are so many understanding, caring and patient people on this website to so please come back with any questions and all the wonderful members are always more then willing to lend an ear and some advice good luck and be sure to get her spayed right after this litter

Well, one important item is calcium. Give her raw egg shells, yes this is quite safe. Tums or any calcium based antacids are good too. A little bit of liver will get her blood count up, chicken livers, boiled, are what I use. Make sure she has a comfy box with shredded newspaper, then after all the pups are delivered, use old towels.have fun and good luck.
hello everyone, hoping i could get some input...my 9month old min pin is in ALOT of trouble ! just the past month or so he started showing back leg issues.. such as stiffness limping on both legs, it looks like hes walking on stilts. So i thought maybe he got hurt so i watched him very closely for the last week i figure lets go to the vet... first vet said xrays- so we got xrays, they reviled that my 9 MONTH OLD "PURE BRED" has "LPD"( Legg-perthes-disease) in his Left hip joint and Beginning signs of hip dysplasia in his Right hip joint. and because of all this to add to the list hes got arthritis in both knees, and is to the point of barely bending them, I went to another vet with the xrays to get a second opinion, that vet agrees with the first, they both prescribed him Rimadyl25mg 1/2 2xdaily.. i know i shouldnt have however this puppy was a graduation gift for me and a 21nd birthday gift, we got him at the Willow brook mall in nj. So not knowing what to do i went WITH rocky and showed him to them, they said they will try to do the best they can, even had their vet look at him and he said the same as the others, he will need a double hip surgery =[ being 9months old i feel SO bad and that this is SO unfair to him to have to go through.. the surgery is almost 6000$ they are telling me and he is covered by INS- & if i dont do this surgery he will loose use of both back legs within a matter of years because of how fast its progressing... any input ANYONE would be so greatly appriciated!
- also i looked through all my paper work to try and find the breeder.. and i have had NO LUCK! her name is *** out of KS.. anyone ever herd of her? because i have a few words for her.. but i cannot track her down..which leads me to think hes in fact a puppy mill pup.. which breaks my heart because hes in so much pain the doctors tell me.. and he just keeps getting worse, but there is nothing i can do until INS covers him.

considering you got him at the mall, you probably purchased him at a pet store. Or those who gave him to you as a gift. YES, he is a puppy mill dog. Reputable breeders never sell a dog to a petstore, broker, or at yard sale, etc.
It doesn't surprise me that you can not find the breeder, and you probably never will. You have a typical puppy mill puppy, and I am so sorry for his pain. Good luck with him, and just do the best you can do. Then continue spreading the word like the rest of us, and I boycott any petstores that sell puppies. I don't even purchased the simplist thing there, and I don't care if I have to go across town.
