Hello - we recently adopted a 1yr old Yorkie/Maltese mix whose was in a rescue. She is clearly the alpha dog over my very submissive, sweet 2 yr old labradoodle who we've had since she was a puppy. My dilemma is - alpha dog will not allow my labradoodle to have any of her own toys/bones. She struts over to her, takes it out of her mouth, walks away and drops it. Seems really bratty to me, but my labradoodle doesn't seem to mind and just walks away. Should I try and train my alpha to "share" or is this more my problem than the dogs problem??? It bugs me no end... Thanks
Personally, I would get the new little brat her own toys!! I would reprimand her when she hogs your older dog's toys, tell her NO in a stern voice, and use a spray bottle of water to reinforce the fact that everything does not belong to her. One thing that often happens with small breeds like this is that they do end up running the show because they're so cute....however, you are the alpha in the household, and you dictate what goes on there. Good luck with them!
