Dachshunds

Our long-haired, five-year-old miniature dachshund recently suffered a ruptured disc and could no longer walk. We located three different specialists over a month period who treated Dinky. Something worked, and he's now appearing fully recovered. He seems to monitor his own activitiesnicely, but there is one activity that one of the vets said he should not do. She said he should no longer be allowed to sit up on his back side and "beg." He used to pop up regularly, like a gopher, and he still tries. We no longer let him, but is that really true that Dachshunds should not sit up? Clarice M

Sitting up like that puts an unnatural strain on the back. If the specialist you saw advises against it I would follow their advice. Glad to hear your dog has made an excellent recovery.
