Hi, I am trying to figure out the best way possible to handle the situation I am having right now. Today my puppy Bee-2 was spayed at the Vet's(this is the 2nd vet Bee has seen and the one she will continue to goto in the future). When I picked Bee up at the end of the day, the vet informed me that Bee had fleas. After talking to the vet and telling her that Bee has been on Comfortis for the last 2 months and I felt it didnt work well because she still was getting fleas the vet seemed surprised. I told her that the previous vet had sold me the Comfortis for a 40-60lb dog and instructed me to split the pill up every month until Bee was at 40 lbs. The new vet today said I should not have been told to do that because that pill should only be given as a whole pill due to the medicine not being given in the correct dosage if the pill is split(this tells me why Bee was still having fleas on her). Also at the 1st vet I was given an antibiotic to give Bee for a staph infection(cephalexin in a capsule form) that I was told to open the capsule and split the medicine up into 2 doses per day. I was again told by the vet today, that I should not be doing that because there is no way for me to know if Bee is getting the correct dose at one time. I am very upset right now because I feel that the other vet was careless about the medicines given to me for Bee. I want to report this vet for negligance, is that possible and correct in the way I should handle this. I feel that I have wasted money that I dont really have to piss away right now on the Comfortis(cost me $74.00 for something that I cannot use right now) I purchased 1 pill from the new vet today for October for $18.50. Also the vet today told me that she feels very strongly that Bee has an allergy to flea bites which could have been avoided if I was instructed to use the Comfortis the correct way. I have now spent alot of money going to the old vet due to Bee's bad rash and trying to figure out that is causing it. What can I do?? Any input will be greatly appreciated :)
I already answered this in your other post- I think I would go back to the old vet!
There is nothing wrong with splitting the pills. Fleas are becoming resistant to everything.
Splitting the pills with the stuff inside can be trickier but I am sure you can handle it. With most of them if you give the first half in the am and the other at night then they definitely got it all. The minute difference would not matter. You would have to really screw up that split to have it not work.
They make more money selling more pills.
