A few weeks ago, we noticed that my 3 yr old yorkie's teeth were getting black so we took him into the vet for a standard teeth cleaning that required anesthesia. After this procedure, we took our dog home and we noticed some lameness in his front right leg. At this point, we brought him back to the vet and they gave him a cast. A few days later, we took the cast off and noticed that the lameness was only slightly better. A day or two later, he began to walk in circles and this was due to the fact that the vision in his right eye was completely gone. His head was also tilted. We immediately rushed him to the vet and conducted an MRI and spinal tap. Our vet says that our dog has encephalitis and it could not have been a stroke due to his age. The spinal tap was unsuccessful as they were only able to draw a single drop of blood. The MRI results showed that the left side of his brain was much larger due to inflammation. The Radiologist says that our dog has a brain tumor as the image shows a small white circle. The Neurologist claims that she is almost certain that it is encephalitis and is sticking by her story. An Oncologist that viewed the MRI scans says that he thinks it could be either a tumor or encephalitis. I am on this forum to ask for a referral to a neurologist that anyone knows that is great. I am in need of finding the best doctor for my dog. Thank you.
