German Shepherd Dogs

It seems like GSDs fall into 2 categories: the show types with the severely sloping backs and more traditional dogs with level backs and legs at more of right angle. I'm under the impression that the severely sloped back dogs are much more prone to hip displasia. Is this true? I prefer the more level back types, they just look more natural to me. Is there a strong predjudice against the level backed dogs as far as show dogs are concerned? thanks for any info you might have.
