Hi, I am in serious need of some training advice with my strong willed nine month old male mini bull terrier. His name is RIKCO & it has not been easy( any of it) he is very hard headed and definitely tries to over ride my commands. I have managed to potty train him he has mastered the commands of Sit, Down Come, and my favorite "Jump" however he absolutely will not listen when I have guests or simply meeting strangers on a stroll at the park. He recently snipped at a woman as she walked passed us just this last weekend. He jumps and bites everyone he comes in contact with almost knocking them over. I dare NOT allow him around small children or elderly. I need some Training advice and or tips. Obedience Schools are just too far away, as I would like to participate in his training. HELP ANYONE!!!
There is lots of DVD's you can buy on training dogs that might be helpful to you. Your local library might even have some to check out to use. You can use a prong collar on your dog. You might also try a head halter when walking your dog. Good luck with your dog.
I love German Shepherds and will always have one with me for the rest of my life!
Please get to a positive reinforcement obedience class ASAP. If you can't do classes, please read "When Pigs Fly" by Jane Killion. Lots of great training tips in there.
Good luck and be firm with the little bugger...Bullies will push you to the limit!
