A pekingese? First time to hear something to have problem with that breed. Anyways, like we do to our malteses, crate and potty training.. Go look for someone or a friend knows how to do the proper one. :)
Positive reinforcement is the best way to train any dog, in my opinion. It requires a great deal of patience in order to successfully train your dog and punishment is not an option since it would just worsen the situation. His favorite treat can be your best ally during training. Personally, I make use of old newspapers placed on a sandbox (minus the sand). I place my dog there after meals and early in the morning and I watch over him. If he does his business, I praise and give him his treat. On the other hand, he won't get any cuddling or treat if he causes accidents. A peke is a smart dog and it won't take long before he figures out what he should do on the sand box. And if he is already using the sand box properly, you can take it to a next level by bringing it outside. My dog ended up looking for that box in order to do the deed. And once I took it outside, he followed it there. And then I showed him that he can do his deed anywhere outside by placing the sandbox upside down. Now, he doesn't make any accident inside our home. And yes, I do have a regular schedule for his business. You should also do that since dogs are creatures of habit.
Hope you will find this helpful.
