My husband brought home a 3 month old puppy he rescued from the highway. It was clearly starving and malnurished. Our vet said it is a Weimaraner. My problem is that after studying the bree on line I don't think his ears are correct for this breed. He has big ears but they don't lay close to the head. We refer to his ears as "The Flying Nun look". His color is not the steel gray that I read about; it is closer to a taupe. The vet listed him as "smoke". He has a strip of white on his chest that starts under the throat and ends between his front legs. Other than these traits, he looks like a weimaraner. He is beautiful, with amber eyes, and his conformation looks like a weimaraner. How can I be for sure?
Well, to be sure you could do one of those DNA tests on him and see what the results come back as. Just because some of his features don't match exactly what is written in the standard doesn't mean he isn't a purebred dog. He just may be a pet quality "fullblood" or a poorly bred "fullblood".
Post a picture on photobucket.com and then post the link here so we can see him and give you some educated guesses. In the end does it really matter what he is?
