Ive heard that the Lhasa tends to have recurrent ear infections, but ive yet to find out the reason. My vet always treats it as a food allergy & prescribes antibiotics. Im wondering if its just because of the hair in their ears? I get my dogs ears plucked w/every grooming, but im going to pluck them myself, between groomings, so that I can keep up with it. Has anyone heard of this problem w/the breed in particular & found out the reason for it? Thank you
sometimes they can just have a ph imbalance. Try using vinager and water mixure. 1 part vinager, and 9parts water. Clean the ears every day with it.
sometimes ear infections can be genetic, as seen in the standard poodles and cockers. Allergies can also present a problem, not just food, but outdoor/indoor allergies as well. I would suggest having your vet take a culture sample to find out what kind of infection your dog has, and then try to treat that specific infection. Esp. in yeast infections, some yeast is harder to treat then others.
Also make sure you are drying or keeping them dry as well. My Shiba Inu bitch always had ear issues and they were allergy related, for years it was just corn, but as she aged there were more and more things that bothered them, to the point that I had to put her on raw and carefully monitor what she ate.
