Hi! I have an approximately 4 yr old adopted persian, his hair is falling out in patches the size of my hand around his neck. Took him to the vet, 150 dollars later no answer! Vet said his blood test results were "beautiful"! Any ideas out there???? I am at my wits end!
Persians are very sensitive little critters. I have 8 of them. It is possible that he has some sort of allergies that may be causing hair loss. He might be allergic to something in his food, the scent in your cat litter or anything else that would cause him to scratch and lose hair. I notice that when mine scratch, they do scratch at their neck and cause clumping hair there but bald patches are not good. If your vet could not offer any suggestions, I would consider a second opinion or switching to a vet that specializes in cats. Did he even do any skin tests or cultures to see what might be causing it? I was seeing a vet that I really liked but the staff was inept and labwork was often mishandled and had to be redone. I had one cat misdiagnosed with hyperthtroid and the medicine they gave her almost killed her. I changed vets to a Cat Only clinic and I just feel so much more confident with the care my babies are getting now. Also brush him as often as possible to help releive any itching. My vet suggested Welactin for my girls which is an Omega 3 supplement that helps with skin & coat. It can be purchased online at places like Amazon.
