Can you help me as my cat is overweight. We feed her only about 3/4 cups a day but she is 14 pounds, probably only suppose to be 9 or 10 pounds. She does play sometimes but hasn't lost any weight. What should I do, does she need a new diet, more play time? Also, the contributing problem is that she always cries when we enter the kitchen, asking for food so we feed her to keep her quiet. Please help!

I would discuss a diet plan with your vet. Weight loss should be done gradually and it depends on her frame as far as how much she should weigh. The "suggested" amounts on the bag are generic and vary from cat to cat. One of my persians is only 5.5 lbs and that is right for her but I have others as large as 10.5 and that is right for them. What you are feeding your cat is also important. 3/4 of a cup of something like Meow Mix or Cat Chow is giving her a bunch of fillers and junk that they don't need. But the same amount of something like Evo or other grain free food is giving them more protein and things that they need and they won't need to eat as much. Also spreading out the food that you do give her will help her feel like she is getting more. Whatever amount you give her can be split up into more than one feeding. When she begs in the kitchen for more, give her a kibble or two of her food as a treat.
