No, this is very normal the week before she delivers. Are you monitoring her temp? You should be taking it in the AM and PM. Average is between 100-101. If she drops below 99 keep a very close eye on her. normally after dropping to 98-99, she should begin labor within 24 hrs. If more than 4 hrs pass after labor begins, call your vet immediately.
OK a dogs temp is normal between 101-102. The temp may drop to 99, may not. Most bitches get very reclusive at the onset of labor, they try to hide and usually not in the box you provide. Keep taking her to the box. It sounds like she's not far off, but her level of anxiety will increase, she will be panting and scratching in her box, and as said, may try to hide and scuttle off. this may go on for several hours to a day. She may stand up to birth the pups. don't worry that's normal and also up to 50% of pups are breech, so don't panic, this is normal. Give her a TUMS, yes the antacid you take for heartburn, it is one of the best sources of calcium. VERY important that she be given extra calcium, so a TUMS a day is in order here. Have some waxed dental floss on hand in case she doesn't bite the cord off. put the floss about an inch from the belly ,tie tight, and cut above the floss. Usually nature takes it's course and everything will be fine. be sure to have the bottom of the box warm, like on a carpet or towel to keep the pups warm. Good luck and have fun!
