Any members here use them? Thoughts, comments on level of care your pets get there. Skill level of the office staff, techs, assistants and Dr.'s? Do they practice like a privately owned animal hospital or do they try to push things on you because they are a corporation and are more interested in making money ?
From what we are told, they try to push everything possible.
That's what I was afraid of =[ I have a job interview for 1 of their hospitals and I was really kind of hesitant to even apply for that reason. I guess I will just have to see how they operate and determine whether or not I can deal. I know vet's need to make money and their services are not cheap, but I absolutely cannot work for/with people who are all about the money and push things on people that are either not necessary or warranted just for the money. I never believed corporations and vet medicine were a good mix, guess I will find out.
Took my new chihuahua puppy in for basic shots. They were really pushing the Wellness Plan. Having the Wellness Plan with other pets, I told them I would not opt for it. They were not real reseptive to my decision. When asked how much it would cost for a neuter for a 4# dog they told me it would be $350. Knowing how much the cost would be for the simple procedured, I knew they were over inflating their cost because I didn't go with the Wellness Plan. I say run like the wind from Banfield clinics in PetsMart. They are Money Driven more than the well being for your pet.
That is what I feared =[ I went on the interview and my whole impression was that money is what drives their policies. Especially their vaccine protocols. Who gives bordetella vaccines to EVERY dog, and EVERY 6 months to boot! They don't follow AVMA's newer guidelines on vaccinations, they have protocols for how pets are to be treated ie: run every test under the sun for even minor ailments like diarrhea, etc. I get the feel they don't leave much to the Dr.'s discretion. Plus they are open on all holidays and Sundays. That alone tells me they're all about the money.
I am desperate for a job so I will probably wind up taking it. Def not stopping looking for something else!!
I worked at one, did not last long. They are very concerned with how much money you bring in. I too needed a job at the time, but it is very corperate and they are so picky about how uch money you bring in and you have have to reccomend what they tell you to even if yoou do not agree. I quit once I found a better job, but they make you sign a contract too, which you should read really well about what you may not disclose upon leaving. Then when I did get people to sign up for health plans other girls in the front would "STEAL" take credit for my work by putting there name down as the person who sold the packege deal, cuz you get kick backs for recomending packages (or at least used to) it has been MANY years since I worked at one.
