I live in Wisconsin so it can get cold, but there's plenty of game and birds to be hunted. I live on a large acreage with the woods in my backyard, so like I said, hunting's a plus and I can give the dog as much space as "he" wants. I would be willing to put up a dog pen. We have four Quarter Horses and one cat. The dog would be home alone for 6 hours a day or so, but we are planning on getting the puppy in summer so would set up a program to get him into the swing of things. We cannot tolerate much shedding, we would like a calmer dog that we can chill out with but get up and go play with whenever, and do not want to spend more than $800 for a puppy. We also would prefer a more compact dog that we could take anywhere.
Consider a Schipperke. Schip's get about 14 lbs, love to play, love to travel and love to cuddle. Mine are raised on our farm, have the room to run but in the house their like teddy bears. We take them everywhere including fishing in the boat, in our RV, on my sales trips, and just in our cars. Because we raise them in our home, they become accustomed to everyday sounds indoors and out so don't become chronic barkers plus get along with all other animals and children.
Schipperke's have special personalities and traits unfounded in other breeds. They do all they can to please YOU! If interested check out my ad on here under Schipperke's, plus read about the breed. :) Good luck, hope you find that special companion!
