I have a wonderful dog is a German shepherd. He is smart and very loving. I am having some issues with him and his crate. The issue is that we are moving and he will now have to be crated during the day. He use to be crate trained but we moved and the person we moved in with would let him out. So if anyone has any ideas on how I can get him to like his crate again. I just dont know how to get him to enter the crate without me having to go get him.
Crate Training Tips: First and most important, make sure he knows he's not being punished by being in the crate. Praise him for going in and talk softly. Offer a favorite chew bone or rawhide in the crate, plus any special blanket, toys, etc. When he doesn't need to be in the crate, keep it available and open so he can learn that its his safe haven. Give him extra love & attention when you take him out of the crate, praise him! Maybe consider a pet play yard instead of a crate, this keeps them secure, yet contained with more play area. I use these in raising our puppies and still for my grown dogs. Their portable, lightweight, durable and easy to clean. Good luck, hope this helps a bit. :)
