We just rehome a beautiful Black Lab last night. She came from a loving home, however she has been gaining lots and lots of weight. She will be 2 on the 12th of this month and she looks like a bear... NO JOKE... She is so playful and smart. She runs shakes hands sits lays all commands and is great with my 9 year old.. However she is WAYYY overweight. I've been looking information online in regards to obesty in this AKC and looks like its somewhat normal. To me it's not she is way to big.. I need advice as to what to do with her, food wise (what to feed her and how much), excrise wise (how much I can do to not over do it with her) I want to get her healthy ..
Not sure what her current weight is but last time she went to the vet 7/2010 she was at 100 pds. per the lady I got her from she stated she was about 90 pds..
I would try a weight loss food, and cut it down by about 1/2 of what is recommend. Look on the bag for the recommendations. For treats, give her veggies. My dogs love carrots. You can also add green beans in her dry food, so she thinks she is getting more food. Last as far as a lab is concered, they do get fat quickly, and that has to be watched. Find out what kind of games she likes, maybe she will fetch. Play with her as much as possible for short durations. You don't want her to over do it. good luck
