Greetings! I am the new, proud owner of an 8wk old Yorkie named Rocki. She is my very first pet...and I'm totally clueless! I'm hoping to get a few tips on how to potty train her. I got her puppy pads, but so far she won't go on them. Some people tell me to put her nose next to it and say "no", but then others tell me not to. She's soooo tiny and it's still a little chilly outside, so I don't take her out- when I do her little body just shivers and shakes. Any suggestions would be VERY much appreciated.
Its been ages since I have been on here but just seen your post and congrads. on your new yorkie. I have 2 and love them to pieces. One thing you have to really watch and I noticed the breeder let her go at a really young age for yorkies. (usually at least 13wks.)is hypoglecmia.(sp.?) I would keep watch her blood sugars don't fall since she is so little. Kayro syrup, alittle on the gums help bring it back up. If its cold there always put a little coat on her because they are not doubled coated and get cold easy. My shiver sometimes when they take a bath. Being patience and consistent in potty training. Yorkies are very hard to potty train. Good luck with your new baby and I hope I have helped alittle bit with just a few suggestions.
I have a 4-year old yorkie and she was really easy to potty train. I was lucky that I wasn't working when we got her, so I would take her out automatically every time she woke up. It took me about 2 months, but I thought that was pretty good. Also, I found a product at the pet store. Name brand is "Simple Solution" and the name is "Potty Training Aid". It is a spray bottle that you spray on the pee pads. Worked wonders for me. Never had a miss when I started using it. When she was a puppy, she would use it during the night. Good luck. I think you'll find if you're consistent with your puppy, you will have good results.
