Sry for this 2nd topic. I wasn't sure if people were going to read the first topic. This is a new problem I just discovered that's pretty impossible for me to do.
I was talking about the same new dog I got from the first topic. I got her from a neighbor. I just found out she might not be house trained. I'm not sure. I talked to her owners before and from what I can gather, she was not potty trained at all. She's 6 month old already and it seems they let her go inside their house and just clean it up.
No matter what I did, she always goes in my house. I'm not sure if because she's not spayed or if she has not developed her bladder control but she seems she has to go all the time. I don't get it at all. I let her out every 3 or so hours to go potty and praise her and everything. When I catch her in the act of going inside the house, I make sure she knows I'm not pleased. I put her in time out and do everything to make her see that what she did was wrong.
But there's always that weird time when she goes an hour after I just let her do her business outside. So if I let her out at like 8am in the morning, she would go potty inside at around 9am again even though all she did was lay down.
She is fine when she's in her cage. In fact, I put her inside the cage every night and she doesn't pee inside it. When I go to work, I also put her inside the cage and she has no problem holding it also. There was one time where I was 6-7 hours late and when I came home, she is still fine and I quickly let her go outside to do her business and she did.
I get her outside as soon as I wake up and she goes just fine when we're outside.
The problem comes when I have her out of her cage. It seems she has to go every 3 or 4 hours or so and she could not hold it for some reason when she's out of her cage. It seems she just decides to potty right there and then when she pleases even after telling her no when I catch her in the act. She also seems to drink a lot so that's what also causes it. But when she's in her cage, she doesn't go at all. She could wait for long periods with no problem.
I'm almost running out of patience here. I'm not sure what's wrong with her or if I could ever train it out of her.
Is it the fact that she hasn't been spayed yet? I read somewhere that dogs in heat tend to potty more but then again, I'm not sure if she's in heat. I don't think she is though since I've read symptoms of when dogs are in heat and there's none that I can see other than she needing to pee all the time.
I'm not sure if I can handle it if this goes on. I'm almost tempted to just return her to her back to her owners. I know it sucks but it's better than me losing patience and actually hurting her in the process. I never had any problem like this with my first dog. By his 4th month, he was fully potty trained with no problem at all.
Is there anything else I could do? I don't want to spend the money to spay her only to find out the problem still persists. If this persists, I'm going to have to bring her back to her previous owners.
Right now, I plan on putting her in her cage most of the time so that I could train her bladder control. I'm not sure if this is a good idea but I'm running out of options. I'm not even sure if this will fix the problem. Please help!
