MY fiancÚ and I took our pup to a fantastic dog park for the first time yesterday. She absolutely loved it! We were really proud on how she socialized with the other dogs (mainly the small ones and puppies) and she even loved the pond and picked up swimming in an instant.
My only question is, is there any certain etiquette we should know when going to the dogpark? Of course we know to make sure she isn't bullying other dogs, no jumping on people and pick up after they potty. We just kind of felt like we were stepping on people's toes or Daisy our pup was interrupting play time between other dogs and their owner. Most people were really nice and loved on her but there were a few who seems more annoyed than anything. I just don't want to become that owner who has the obnoxious dog that nobody likes.
She is obidient and listens when we call her to us and if you tell her "down" when she tries to jump on people. I think mostly, people are nervous because she would rather play with dogs half her size and she is a hefty 85lb american bulldog. She is pretty timid with dogs her size, but we are hoping that will change the more we take her to the park the more she'll play with large dogs.
I don't think there is any etiquettte beyond what you already stated and using some common sense. Dog parks can be both wonderful and horrible experiences. You have a wide range of people going to them and thus a wide range of personalities that follow. Most dog parks have a list of rules right at the front gate that outline the basic do's and dont's but you will usually run into the "park police", you know the ones who go there so often they feel as if they are in charge of the place, who will be more than willing to voice your wrongdoings if it's needed
