I live in the Oklahoma City area, and I'm going to take my Yorkie (Jack) to the vet because he has an undescended testicle which needs to be fixed.
Jack is 3 years old (yes, I know, it should have been taken care of sooner but I'm not the original owner of the dog). I was wondering if anyone could give me a ballpark figure of how much this procedure will cost me so I can plan ahead.
I don't want to have him neutered if I don't have to because I'd like to have some little Jacks someday. But if the vet says that neutering is the best way to go for Jack's welfare, then that's what will be done.
Some helpful info: the cryptorchid testicle bump is visible in the inguinal canal, a little behind the penis. It's in the area that does not normally require an abdominal incision.
My vet in Michigan charges $100, which is the same price as a spay. I have heard of vets charging up to $800-900 which is ridiculous. They also shouldn't "NEED" to do all sorts of xrays prior. If they do, then I guess they aren't qualified to do the surgery.
Basically shop around. Expensive does not mean better.

My vet charges 225.00 for a dog neuter and then 100-175 on top of that for an undescended testicle. If you want to make it a little cheaper for yourself look into getting a friends of animals certificate for the neutering and then all you'll have to pay is the extra for the undescended testicle procedure. It is healthier for him to be neutered because undescended testicles can become cancerous tumors if left in the body.
