mom passed and had Sami, 2 1/2 years old skipperke, she was staying at a ladys place in outdoors, until we can pick her up (about 5 days), we picker her up and she is not eatting at all and seems to be drinking a lot, she was moms little baby and very close to mom, we have her now and traveling back home with her - 1600 miles and seems to be not feeling well, she has bloody bowl, just mucus. we will take her immediately to vet when we get home but anything we can do for her and we have 3 other dogs at home, can they get anything she has or is this just from shock of changes?
I understand how difficult what I am going to suggest may be for you but it may really be in her best interest. I would try very hard to find an emergency vet clinic in a town that you are driving through. Do you know anything about this dog's health history, vaccines, how she was being cared for by your moms friend? There could be a dozen different rasons for the way she is acting, from mourning your mom to stress at being left with someone she is not familiar with and the care, or lack of, they gave to her before you picked her up, to a virus of some sort that can be passed on to your dogs at home. Blood in the stool can be *somewhat* normal if the dog has been stressed out and eating a different food then she is used to. It could be a sign of a stressed bowel. It can also indicate a disease such as Parvo, which is highly contagious and can be fatal. I don't want to scare you, she just may be really stressed out, but for her best interest she should be looked at right away. 1600 miles is a long time to have a sick dog like her not be checked out. Maybe the vet can give her some fluids SQ and some medication to at least temporarily help her til you can get her to your regular vet.
