hi i was wondering if anyone could give me some advice, my 5 year old mini foxi keeps ripping his dew claws on his front legs happened about 5 times already this year!! i keep them as short as possible, cut them every week i know surgery is a big procedure but im not sure if it would be beter for him to have the surgery so he doesnt have to go through all this pain??!!??
The surgery isnt going to hurt your pup, it will help him! If he keeps ripping it against his other legs then removing it would save him a lot of pain in the future. Dogs dont know their going in for an operation, so not getting it done will just hurt him more! Hope this helps, I have had 6 dogs in my 13 year old life and we always have the dew claw removed. ;)
It is prefered to be done at 3-5 days. Once they are older, it is a surgical procedure to have done. But, considering the amount of times he has already tore them, you would be best, IMO to have the vet do the surgery to removed them. Will be best for him in the long run rather than to go through so many injuries.
