Hi All, My JRT/Maltese puppy is about 3 months old. We've had her for 3 weeks now and all along she has been an amazing puppy we are so pleased with her sweet temperament. Last week she came down with a UTI . Since I have started her antibiotic regimen, Josie has become much more aggressive. She growls/snarls at us if we move her while resting, when before this she would sleep with us and in my lap perfectly fine. In fact she had never growled at us at all. She also just doesn't seem like herself, her body language in general is much different, and her level of interest in the world around her has taken a dramatic decline. Just to assure myself I wasn't losing my mind, I skipped her meds last night and this morning my wonderful puppy was back! Because I know she needs to finish her antibiotics to recover fully, I gave her the normal dosage this morning before breakfast. Sure enough about 7 hours latter grumpy Josie was back. I had picked her up several times while she was resting or sleeping all morning with no reaction, in the afternoon when I lifted her to put her in her crate she snarled and snapped once more. Has this ever happened to any one else? I really think her medicine is making her behave this way, but I'm not sure that's even possible. Any help would be much appreciated. Thank you!
It is quite possible for a dog to be allergic to certain meds. I cant say that what you describe is a typical allergic reaction sign, but to be on the safe side...I would make an appointment at the vet and see about switching antibiotics for the remainder of the treatment.
