If they focused on things with more emphasis behind them, they may make more of a difference. That's what I think. By telling people things like petco kills pets while demanding you go veggie and spay and neuter, how much will they really help anything?
The only dealings I have ever had with them was when I first moved to NC. There was a dog across the street from my house in a vacate lot that was just laying there in the pouring down rain. I tried to go over and check on the dog but he was vicious. I could tell he was in pain. I left him alone and after 3 hours of watching this dog just lay there I knew something wasn't right. I called animal control but because it was night time and it is in the country they only had one animal control officer on call and they didn't consider it an emergency. The calls for the AC was forwarded to the police department. I called back every hour for 4 hours and by this time is was about 11pm. It was very cold outside and pouring down rain. The animal control officer finally called me back and said that he was spending time with his family and the only time they come out is if it is an emergency and this dog was not causing harm to anyone. Well that really made me mad so I emailed PETA that night and told them the story, I left them my name, address and phone number. The next morning a rep from PETA was at my front door and said they recieved my email and they came out to see the dog but couldn't find him. So we went across the street and he wasn't there. We looked around alittle more and found that he had drug himself into the bushes. The lady got on the phone with AC and them who she was and within 20 AC was there. Well in the county I lived in they only use the gas chamber at the shelter and she didn't want to see this poor dog go through that so she called a local vet and they agreed to take care of the dog and give him treatment or put him to sleep if needed. Me and her followed AC to the vets office. The AC officer was so cold and treated the dog so bad. The dog couldn't walk and he just drug him across the ground. Anyway it ended up he had been hit by a car and his back and pelvis were crushed. He had to be pts. PETA later sent me a "thank you" card for caring.
I really think their dumb people and I really do hate them. I guess some are okay, with the story above, but in my area around christmas time there was a cooked pig, and it said 'jesus died for you' blah blah (i don't remember the rest) i'm sorry but that is just idiotic. Everything else they talk about really is dumb to me so really I hate them with a passion. I really do not like animal activists people. When they get really scary about the whole animal rights thing, it scares me, like how really big jesus fans are, i'd use the words 'jesus freaks' but i do not want to offend anyone. I know I probably did. I have absolutely no problem with religion, but when the people have a million stickers of jesus and god ALL OVER their car that kind of scares me. I'm not sure why...
i think they are foolish and funny to watch. i think there cause is good and there motives. but there tact hurts them. they do foolish things to prove there points and the only thing everyone notices is their foolishness
I'm with shinyblackpit and scout. They might be ok if they weren't so extreme. It is good what they did that time, but too often we see the extremes they go to, and they are really not helping any cause like that.
in my opinion the methods that they use to try and evoke change alianate the general public. i dont know if any of you have seen the photograph of the bloody cows head but it was absolutely disgusting. these posters were put up to try and make people stop eating meat- i think that it is crazy to expect everybody to be a vegetarian, humans are omnivores and designed to eat meat.
I have mixed feelings about them. I don't like the extremes they go to, it is a little scary sometimes. I also HATE and I mean LOATH having other peoples views pushed on me. So although I am a vegatarien I still hate the poster they put up trying to push it on others. I think people should have free will. If you want to eat meat, more power to you. If you don't, then so be it. Whatever. I don't care. Just don't go around saying meat should be outlawed or something. It's all about choices.
Some of PETAs ideas are a bit whack. I am a vegitarian but im not forcing it on anyone else. I think they should fight for better living conditions for the animals and better treatment. I dont think people are going to stop eating meat any time soon. As a person though, not speaking as a vegitarian, i would like to see the animals more humanly killed. Not beaten and abused before they die. Just my 2 cents.
I don't mind them because I think there they balance things out, considering there are people just as fanatic in the opposite direction. If you read the list of the stuff they are against though, it's hard to be with them all the way. If they had their way, none of us would have any animals for pets or livestock.
I believe some animals were put in this world for human consumption, end of story. My niece has decided to become a vegitarian and is suddenly into peta. She went and gave out flier to people in the KFC drive thru. Which I think is pretty funny. Sure I have heard something about them abusing chickens. Don't know if its true. Her mother said laughingly how in the world do they have time to abuse every single chicken. If they have time for that let her come over and get some of her frustrations out on them too. I'm all for being humane, is there a humane way of killing a chicken though. I think it hurts one way or another. I don't mind someone being a vegan but it really bugs me when they sit there saying things about what we may be eating. I'm all for her being vegan as long as she does it correctly. It's her choice. I just don't like the peta people voicing things over and over. Say it once and we know how you feel about already. Now I just want her to shut up. I lent my neice my fuax leopard print jacket and she acted rediculous, she is only 13 though, she wore it about ten minutes and gave it back. Then I thought, I wonder if she still has the leopard print comforter I gave her for xmas. Yep she does. There is nothing wrong with enjoying something like faux this or that without the killing. I know the peta people have popular models that sign on with them and will not wear real fur but will wear the faux stuff.
