hello my name is Betty, and on the second of last month i came home to find my dogs tied. Now I knew my female was in heat but had been told by several people that because my male had undescending testes that he would not be fertile. I lost my job when the economy went bad and have been a fulltime student so because of this i had not yet fixed our male. To my suprise today my female is obviously pregnant, she seems to have grown from the belly literally overnite. what signs can i look for to know that she is in labor?? Her 1st tie was on 7-2-2011.
Approx 59-63 days after the tie, her temperature will drop below 100 degrees. When this happens, she should start to shiver and be noticably cold. You still want to check her temp with a thermometer. Check it in the morning, and in the evening. Once it drops below 100, you have, at max, 48 hours until the puppies are born. Be sure to have a welping box set aside and introduce her to it early. Do not give her the option of having the puppies on your bed, in the bathtub, under your dinner table, ect. If she does go in to labor in such a place, gently move her to her welping box. Keep something like pedialite handy and check with your vet.
