Bandit my 8 month old Papillon makes weird noises while yawning it is so darn cute...it is as if he is barking and yawnng at the same time. I have 4 dogs and he is the only one that smiles when he is happy or being praised... and when he wants to play he stands up on his hind legs and bats the air with his front paws and gets an excited high pitched bark...He is just the cutest! He was pretty full coated until summer hit then he pretty much just has his fringe on the back and front legs his tail seems to be getting fuller and of coarse his beautiful ears and collar. I read somewhere that they can look like the ugly teenager going thru their zit years up until they are 3 is this true. Do they shed every summer and get their full coat back in the winter or when they get their full coat for good do they keep it thru the summer? Im alittle confused about this part of the dogs life as I am a new Papilon owner I have only had short haired dogs before
Yes. as with all coated breeds, they do go through periods of shedding where they look naked. Summer is the most typical time due to the heat and humidity. Some folks (who show) will keep their dogs in climate controlled conditions year round to keep them in coat. Though it is best to allow the dog to shed naturally once a year.
When your dog will mature into its adult coat depends on the bloodlines and what the typical maturity rate is for that line. Generally by 2 yrs old, you will have a fully matured dog.
Life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass. It is about learning to dance in the rain.
