It is my first post here. I'm quite desperate and I need some help to make an informed decision about a problem in the topic.
I've had my Alskan Malamute Gizmo since he was a puppy. He is about 18 months old now. Typical malamute, stubborn, happy, pulling like crazy but very loving dog. He reacts well to people and other dogs, he'd rather lick you to death than hurt you.
However, we had an incident today when he bit my partner's brother (14 years old). I was there to witness it, otherwise I wouldn't believe anything like that actually took place. Gizmo has been quite funny with my partner's brother for a while now. I assumed something must have happened to trigger the apprehension but the brother denies doing anything to the dog. It was nothing major beofre, just a little bit of growling and that's it until today.
I came home from work, my partner's brother had come before me (uninvited, he went in through the back gate as he often does). When Gizmo heard me coming in he rushed down to greet me, lots of jumping, licking and general happiness. then Jordan came downstairs and stood behind Gizmo. Gizmo went absolutely mad! I've never seen anything like this before. I had to grab the dog and pull him away from my partner's brother. When I think about it it was quite dangerous for me coz he could have easily bitten my face. When I finally managed to kick him outside he was standing there, wagging his tail, looking happy like a hero. There was no warning, he just attacked him.
I am absolutely shocked, petrified and I have no idea what to do with it. We do get a growl from Gizmo every so often, especially in the morning when his sleep is interrupted coz somebody needs to take socks out of the drawer and that's when he sleeps but nothing like that. I love my dog, I really love him but I don't know if I can trust him anymore. Would he do that again? Should I take that risk? What other options are there?
I'd be grateful for any piece of advice I can get.
