I have a beagle that is about a year old. She was spayed very young. About 2 months ago her "brother" from the same litter was killed. Bonnie has become very naughty, getting into things and doing things she knows she shouldn't and I can handle that but she is also gaining weight like crazy!! I have not changed any of the feeding habits the bowl is always available and I don't feel as though she's overeating (except for the tissues and paper she gets out of the trash). Suggestions??

We don't "free feed." We feed twice per day. That's for two primary reasons. One is so we know exactly how much he eats per day. Two is so he understands who "the boss" is. Before our pup is allowed to eat, he must sit and wait. He's not allowed to eat until a family member says, "Free."
Who controls the food is a profound concept to a dog, so don't waste it. Your pup is allowed to eat whenever she wants, so she has the sense that she's the one in control. I bet this is contributing to her misbehaving.
If she's gaining weight, then you are feeding her too much. She's not a puppy anymore. It's likely that her caloric needs are lower than when she was growing and playing harder.
