Can someone HELP me, I have a litter of puppies I found and they have diarrhea. I gave my sister one of the pups and she took it to the vet and they did a stool sample and it can back that the pup had Coccidiosis the med they gave her pup is Metronidazole, I ask the vet if they would treat the rest of the litter and they said I had to bring them all in. I dont have the money to do so I am just trying to help these pups out and get them well so I can find them a good home. I found the med called Metronidazole at the fish store witch is the same stuff the vet gave my sister Im just not sure of the mg to give the pups.... Can someone PLEASE help me save these pups......
Albon is usually what is given for coccidia. They usually give metro for giardia.
If it's giardia the panacur granules that you can buy as dog dewormer at the farm supply store will treat it, give it for five days instead of the three that it says. The active ingredient should be Fenbendazole.
Thanks Rollinhranch, now im really lost my sisters pups stool test came back pos for coccsida and the Metronidazole is what the vet gave her pup.... do u know if I can give them bothof the meds? the one that u r talking about and the metronidazole? and u said i can get that at the pet store as a dewormer? Thanks again for ur info
The dewormer I mentioned is for worms and giardia, if the puppies have coccidia they will need something else. I just read that some vets do give the metro for coccidia, I thought maybe your sister had mixed up which problem they had.
I would call different vets, any of the ones I use around here would prescribe medicine for the whole litter if one had a positive fecal. Will any of them let you do a payment plan?
