Hello all! I have a 2 year old male Shepherd. He's beautiful, smart, has one heck of a wrok drive and an all around great dog. The breeder we got him from was thinking about keeping him to use as a stud, but we feel in love with him and wanted him so bad. Now that he is 2 the breeder would like to have him for a couple of weeks to use him as a stud. I am not sure if I can part with him for that long and nothing was said if we would get any type of fee out of this deal. What are your thoughts? Should I branch out on my own and stud him out, go back to the breeder or just say forget it?
I'm going to be honest here, you don't sound like you know what you are doing or have any real interest in how to select the best potential mates for your dogs.
If you advertise on-line or what ever, you are probably going to get other people who don't know what they are doing either. They probably think that their dog is "great" too, but really neither person really knows that and 1+1= 12 average puppies about 1/2 of which will end up euthanized in a shelter.
Either go back and deal with your legitimate breeder or get the dog neutered.
I have 2 Champion health tested Stud dogs. I don't exactly advertise them, but I don't have people beating down my door to use them either. Not that I really want to breed to strangers dogs for a lot of reasons.
