I have a friend who returned from MS with an Aussie. They found the dog apperently shot in the brush on a farm. They took him to a vet who had to remove the injured front leg. The dog was also neutered. He is recooperating very well. He would like for me to take the dog. I currently have a Chocolate Lab and a cat. I have read about the energy levels of the Aussie breed and wonder if it would be a good idea to adopt this dog. Part of me says yes and the other part is very cautious. I have a fairly large yard with electronic fence. I do walk my Lab but most of the exercise is on the weekends. In Summer with more light we walk much more. Any opinions?
I just got an Aussie yesterday, so I can't say a lot about this yet. But I've read that they need a lot of attention and stimulation, both physical and mental. They are very smart dogs. I can tell with my 8 week old pup already.
I can also say that my pup is pretty calm, she doesn't bark at all yet, but her brother seemed really wild. So maybe it's just a luck of the draw thing, not sure.
If you end up getting this dog, and would like to exchange emails I have some pdf books I'd be more than willing to share with you.
Let me know. I'm not sure if these forums have private messages so just respond.
This dog looks to be 3-4 years old so there won't be too many "puppy" problems. And with three legs he might be slowed down a little. I think it would be a good companion to my lab. Decision time this weekend....
