My mother has a year old Pekichi, and we think his sight may be bad.
He has a habit of barking at people he doesn't recognize, and hides under the bed or wherever he can get to, and won't stop barking. We think his sight is bad because if Mom or I walk into the room with a hat or a new coat on, he doesn't recognize us until he sniffs us, while our other dogs immediately recognize us. He also is extremely hard to walk outside because if he sees someone walking down the street, he freaks out, won't potty, and the whole walk is ruined by his fear. Is there a way to stop him from being so scared? Or at least stop him from barking?
The more important problem, though, is that he is EXTREMELY territorial. If his brother gets on my mother's bed, he immediately starts growling attempting to start a brawl with his brother, and when mom tried to intervene, he usually bites her hard enough to break skin.
It bothers me that he bites my mother, and she just coddles him. I know he should be punished, but what is the appropriate punishment for such a thing?
Also, he is currently not neutered, but will be soon. That plays a huge part in his territorial-ness, right?
