I rescued a puppy from the street yesterday. (He looked very small and ran right up to me. I guess he picked me!)
Took him to the vet to check him out because something didn't seem right. Turned out he had fleas, ticks, round worms, hook worms AND tape worms. Now he is almost fixed up with nice medications to make him feel better, a good flea an tick bath, and nice digs at his new home. (Crate, toys, comfy bed, good food)
So here is where I need your help. Apparently he is a Jack Russel. He is a sweet dog but he will NOT STOP CRYING (pretty much all the time). I know he is a baby and I need to treat him accordingly, so I tried all the tricks I read up on. I understand he is probably missing his family, but I am wondering how long and EXACTLY what I should do. Nothing seems to soothe him!I cant have him sleep in my bed. I'm scared I won't be able to handle him and I really don't want to return him, i feel guilty. But I don't know if I will be a good mommy for him or I might get evicted from my apartment :(
1) played with him for an hour before bed to tire him out 2) played soothing sounds on radio 3) warm bottle to sleep with 4) ticking clock wrapped in towel 5) ignored him 6) walked him (He didn't eliminate) 7) Put him in our room
This all wen on until 4:30 in the morning, when a very pissed off neighbor banged on my door.
I finally resorted to getting him out of the bathroom where I had him with the soothing music, nightlight, toys, bed and crate. I grabbed a blanket, put him on the couch, and he finally fell asleep with me there.
I cant sleep on the couch every night with him. It wont be good for either of us.
That is a tough situation when you have neighbors. Puppies are going to cry at night until they are use to sleeping on their own. It can just take a night or two.... or it can take many nights. Especially if people eventually "give in" and get them. I know you didn't have a whole lot of choices.
Do you have a friend that could take the puppy for a few days until it quits crying?

I had the same problem with my papillon Jolie and later with one of the puppies that I kept Gizmo. One thing that I started doing with Jolie when he was little I would put hit carrier next to my bed after hours of telling him to be quiet putting him in the hall and trying to ignore him I realized that if he could smell my hand that he would stop crying. I would try taking a small blanket or towel that smells like you and putting that into the crate with him. He might be doing the crying in fear of being alone. I wish you the best of luck and lots of patience.
do u grate? If not keep pup in bed with u. If do keep him or her crate buy your bed with little radio and give stuff toy and treats this will sooth. And another think pup will do this for a day or 2 there r pack animals dont give up he found u for reasen
