I have two small dogs, Jolie (4 years old) is a pure bred Papillon and Gizmo (2 years old) who is a Papillon/Chihuahua mix, and both still have their dew claws.
My question is, is it too late to get there dews removed? What should I be looking for in deciding this? How long will it take them to heal?
Gizmo is a female that is always bouncing around and has shown signs of hip displacement since the minute she was born and Jolie is laid back and constantly sticking to "mommy". This is a father daughter set and both are fixed. Any advice is welcomed.
Agreed. I used to remove dew claws every litter. Then my vet stopped removing them. I went to another vet and found that most will not want to remove them any longer, as they are the "thumbs" for the dog. We now never remove dew claws and will provide neoprene dew claw wraps for those new owner that hike with brush with their dogs.
