I need some advice with our bichon, Toby. He is the sweetest little guy but he is a little overactive and hyper. He loves his "sister" the cockapoo, Tootsie, but wants to play with her all the time and sometimes she is just no in the mood. He will pick on her by nibbling on her to the point where Tootsie just basically has had enough and will snap at him. I know she will not hurt him but Toby needs to know when enough is enough.
Also, Toby is a jumper. He love to jump on people and when he is in between groomings his nails get sharp and they hurt. I tried getting him trained at PetSmart and he knows the basics but he also knows how to manipulate people as well, especially me. He can be the sweetest little dog at night when he curls up in my lap while my wife and I are watching TV but then when his "horns" come out he can be the devil. I do take both Tootsie and Toby for walks around the block every morning to try to burn off some of his energy but that only lasts for a little while.
The other problem I have is that I work out of my house and when I try to leave him out of his pen he will be okay for a while but then will start jumping on my chair and will not let me work and when I put him back in his pen he will bark his head off until I give him a little treat which will keep him quiet for a little bit until it starts all over again.
What can I possibly do to stop his jumping, control his barking, and just get him to listen? BTW: I also forgot to mention his barking at the neighbors dog along with Tootsie doing the same thing!!!
I had the same kind of problem with my baby shar pei. she constantly wanted attention. I read that you would give your dog a little treat to keep them quiet. Dont do that, your dog is thinking okay when i bark i get a treat. try takeing your dog on a long walk or jog to rid some of the energy.
