I live in Guam and have always loved pitbulls. I have recently rescued what I beleive to be a blond female pit that can't be more than 12 weeks old. She has been in my home now for only 81 1/2 hours. She has already learned to sit and knows not to come into my kitchen. This puppy is unbeleivable. She is beautiful and smart. I need to know when or if to crop her ears and when she should have her shots, which should she have and what is the best way to train. I would appreciate all feedback. THANKS!!! ISIS!!!
If I were you I wouldn't crop the ears, there is not need to put the dog through such pain. Not to mention it's us human's who like to see them with short ears, not dogs. Leave her the way God made her, beautiful.
Well I just bought a Red Nose Pit Bull and I am clipping his ears and tail . But you know you can only get there tail clip when there 5 days or 12 wks old and thats all. Ears you can do anytime. And they do give them medication for the pain. So they will be fine.
myself and some friends of mine raise pit bulls. I crop all of my dogs ears. but occasionally the un-cropped way looks better. i believe that the cropped way give the dog the more in look charge that it should have. And you can only cut the ears until up to about 4 41/2 months.
HELLO. I HAVE RAISED PIT BULLS , RESCUED ,TRAINED, AND OWN THESE TYPE OF DOGS. THE MAIN REASON TO CROP PITS EARS IN THE FIRST PLACE WAS TO FIGHT THEM.SHORT AND CLOSE TO THE HEAD WHERE THE OTHER DOGS COULD'T CLAMP DOWN ON THEM. PLEASE DO NOT CLIP THE EARS.IT IS JUST FOR LOOKS AND REALLY IS NOT WORTH THE MONEY.TO ME THEY LOOK BETER NATURAL.PLUS LESS EAR ENFECTIONS.DON'T CLIP THE TAIL NEATHER.THEIR NOT BOXERS THEIR PIT BULLS
this is for roxi, why do you dock the tail of your apbt? getting the ears done is one thing but doing the tail makes your dog conformationaly incorct.both the adba and ukc automaticly dissqualify a dog with no tail! I like my dogs natural the way they should be.
My vote-- Don't clip the ears or the tail. The main reason this is done is for fighting and for the tough "look" of the dog. They are beautiful just the way they were meant to be. Why put them through the pain of it for the "look" of it. Buy a picture book if that is why you want to do it for the look. Pits already have a bad reputation and people assume they are mean when they look a certain way and it isn't fair for the dog. Of course everyone has their own opinion and that is mine :) I have had 2 pits and both unaltered and both girls are beautiful!
I have had 3 of my 5 pit bulls ears cropped and it is about preference. ur dog is too old to have their ears cropped anyways. u dont want to do it after 10 weeks of age as they are more developed and will bleed more and take more of a chance of infection. 9 weeks is the perfect age. u don't ever want to crop a pit bull's tail, they use this for balance. they r not like a rott or doberman.
You never clip a Pit Bulls Tail!?! Never have I heard of that and my family has bred them for over 30 years. We do sometimes clip ears depending on what they look like. Ear Clipping started when dog fighting started. It was just to get rid of something the other dog could grab and use for leverage. Most vets will do them up to 16wks (4months). I have clipped a few of mine if their ears are standing up or "broken", but if they look good natural I would leave them. I don't care what people say about it not hurting...think about it!?!? I just lost half of my finger and it hurt for months no matter how much medicine I took. Yeah, the dog might not yelp all the time but that doesn't mean it isn't hurting!
I will NEVER crop ears on a pit, even if I show it. Do you all not realize that is now not allowed in alot of places overseas. It was considered inhumane, and now you can crop or dock ears and tails. Why put your dogs through the pain just for looks. Not to mention, if the vet doesn't do it right the animal can bleed to death and die. I wont take that chance with my baby, I don't understand why anyone else would. Lets put alittle thought into this, would you want anyone to put you to sleep and then cut off your ears. DUH HELLO I dont think so.
I have a Dobermann and a pitbull with cropped ears and 6 Dobermanns and a Labrador with uncropped ears. If you bleeding hearts knew what pain you've caused to my dogs with your silly opinions that inevitably lead to the rape of other people's rights you'd shrivel up with shame. Anyone else here had to pinch a vein in a dog's ear closed with a thumbnail while heating a knife on the stove to cauterize that vein? I've done it. Twice. Rabbits have the same vein. Funny. I do not see any of ya mentioning it.
My poor old Corsica used to miss his long tackles by a couple of yards, having stumbled off balance because of an infected ear that progressed to the brain. Yes, my hobby is dogsport. SchH. Cruel, huh?
I'll post pics if required. Of my pitbull's tail too. Why is her tail so full of marks? She probably likes me more than your dogs like you. Always whipping everything around her.
wow, i really have no idea what brett is saying either, first he's talking about it's a horrible thing to do...but yet he's done it not only once..but he's done it twice....what the heck...if you was really against it you woudlnt have even done it once.
Get the full monty on the shots immediately, on ear cropping its needed on a small % on some of the blues and fawns like yours they lose fur on the tips and are prone to skin problems. Many get cropped for those reasons. Or sporting reasons, not that i condone it . But seriously unless its a Gotti, or dna tested to some established blood line out of some reputable breeders, shoot man it might be part anything lol. Get it the shots leave the rest alone. Brett no one fights pits that are worth anything.
