My Pregnant Dogs temp keeps bouncing up and down on first mating she is 68 days on Second she will be 64 days today. She is not showing signs of labour is eating well etc and her milk has not come in although I can still see pups moving around and she seems healthy and not in distress. Can anyone help with this she is a staffie whippet cross but is nearly pure breed.
'Almost" a purebred is still a mix.....but.... to answer your question:
The 'due dates' are an estimate, not a set date. With that said, you can expect them to go anywahere from 5 days early to 5 days late (58 to 68 days)
Now, once they have started going 'late' according to the second breeding...it is time to make an appointment at the vet to determine if a c-section is in order.
Those last 2 weeks of pregnancy, the puppies grow at a very fast rate! General rule is to feed a pregnant mother a quality puppy food during pregnancy, then a diet food the last 2 weeks as to not encourage faster growth. If the mother goes a couple days late to the last breeding with no signs of labor, I would take her to the vet for a check up to possibly do a c-section. Once the pups are very large, it makes it much harder and less likely that the mother will be able to pass the pups naturally.
If she does go into natural labor and is having difficulty or gets into distress, a middle of the night c-section runs about $1200.00 depending on your area.
