I have a 5 month old 28 lbs Australian Shepherd boy! About 3 weeks ago he received his last vaccinations including rabies. I received him at 14 wks old I was told to wait until all shots were completed plus 2 weeks until I could start walking him. I now regret waiting!! He is scared of everything during walks. In the house he is a happy playful friendly puppy even to strangers. On the street though he is constantly looking behind him and looking at cars passing by. Even afraid of strangers and starts jumping back if they get close. I have only been walking him a week but there doesn't seem to be much improvement. Although I did notice today when we turned back he wanted to keep going forward like he knew we were going home and wasn't looking behind him nearly as much. Maybe I should keep the same route?? I have only been walking him once a day, wanting to do twice a day but haven't because of his fear. Should I go ahead and try twice a day?
I have considered just sitting in areas where there is cars and strangers passing to try and get him use to it. There is a park near I can take him to. I just don't want to scare him into not wanting to walk! I really want him to enjoy our walks, since I would like to walk long distance and eventually run with him.
