OK so last summer my lab tore her carpal pad pad and we brought her to the vet, they stitched it back up and gave her meds to prevent infection. Well she ended up tearing it again and the vet told me there was no where else to stitch it to and that they would have to remove the carpal pad itself or we could super glue it and keep it dry etc etc... After the 800 $ vetbill we opted to try to heal it ourselves before removing the pad itself and it worked wonders. Our lab is all healed now without a problem.
So we got a puppy and she ended up tearing her carpal pad as well, shes a malamute/german shepard/ timeberwolf mix. Well anyways she tore it and its stopped bleeding now and it doesnt look too bad. My question is since I had such a bad experience with the vet and them not being able to do much for us (I know our puppy will tear out her stitches) would it be best for us to just treat it at home? I can call my vet and get some meds for her easily so I'll do that tomorrow but do you guys think a vet is really needed? I know the 800$'s could be used for rent or bills rather then being wasted. I already know how to care for it too. So has anyone home treated a wound like this before or should I just suck it up and take her in? I might home care it and if it gets infected or anything I will defiantly take her in. Shes not licking it really and shes not showing any signs of pain or limping.
My next question is how do I keep her limited activity? She isnt kennel trained yet shes only 15 weeks old. I have a e collar and I can get all the bandages tomorrow. What can i use as a good antiseptic?
